Green and Inclusive Energy (GIE -Nepal Project)

IAPHF-Nepal is leading role of health sector on Green and Inclusive Energy Nepal Project (GIE Nepal) in coordination with CRT/N, ENERGIA hosted by HIVOS International.

The Green and Inclusive Energy program, aims to strengthen the lobby and advocacy capacity of CSO’s in low and lower middle income countries. ENERGIA and IIED are implementing partners of the Green and Inclusive Energy program. For achieving the set goals the program will work together with the local government and local civil society organizations in developing countries.

Green and inclusive energy systems are designed, implemented and operated using transparent and participatory decision making processes that include citizens (women and men) and meet people’s energy needs for their daily livelihoods, economic activities, education and health, while reducing climate change.

PROJECT TEAMS

Future Strategies (2017-20):

  • Advocate for gender sensitive energy policy.
  • Improved cooked stove technology demonstration in different geographical areas and scaling-up.
  • Health System and Energy Use Survey in different districts.
  • Awareness program for district stakeholders and Female Community Health Volunteers/ women’s group on HAP in different district of Nepal.

Projects implemented by IAPHF-Nepal

  • Healthy Homes by Improving Households Energy and Environment in Sindhulipalchok district partnership of GEF/SGP-UNDP
  • Improving Households Engery Management Practices in sacred Himalayan – Langtang National Park, Rasuwa partnership of GEF/SGP-UNDP
  • Contributed to endorse “Indoor Air quality Standard and Guidelines, 2009” partnership of Practical Action
  • Jointly prepared FCHV manual partnership of Practical Action and Mirgendra Shamjana Medical Trust

Significant activities implemented by IAPHF-Nepal

  • Organized a two days Training of Trainers workshop for Government Health Workers on Mobilizing FCHVs for Creating Awareness on Household Air Pollution and Health with the support of CRT/N in coordination with National Health Training Center from 11 to 12 July 2017 in Kathmandu, Nepal.
  • Publish and distribute IEC materials on GIE in 2015-16 with the collaboration with Practical Action.
  • Contribute to develop gender inclusive Rural Energy Working Policy, 2012 with Practical Action
  • “Advocacy for Gender Sensitive Energy Policy in Nepal” implementing with the partnership of GEWNet / CRT/N, funded by ENERGIA Network
  • Carried out a research on ‘Gender Gaps in Energy Working Policy, 2012 funded by ENERGIA.
  • Organized national workshop on “Clean Indoor Air The Right to a Healthy Life” with the partnership of Practical Action Nepal
  • Organized National and South Asia Regional level Workshop with the partnership of Practical Action Nepal and WHO to share “National Indoor Air Quality Standards and Guidelines” in Kathmandu
  • Organized workshop with the partnership of Ministry of Environment (MoE), Practical Action Nepal and GEWNet/CRT/N on ” Gender Issues in Rural Energy Policies of Nepal”
